The choice of quality food and drink available in Northumberland is excellent. Here are a few ideas of places to visit during your stay

Personal Recommendations

We would like to offer you some of our favourite places to visit to eat and drink whilst you are staying with us and you will also find guest recommendations in the visitors book when you arrive at Shepherds Retreats.  We will continue to add to this page so if you would like to send us your recommendations we will add them on

Great Pub Food

The Craster Arms Beadnell is 1km from Shepherds Retreats and you will enjoy great pub food, such as ‘Fish and chips’ – named Whale and chips due to the size!  Next door to that is the newly refurbished Beadnell Towers , we haven’t experienced that ourselves but it looks amazing.  One more eating place in the villages is The Salt Water Cafe – open for breakfast, lunch and evening meals in its lovely bistro environment.  One of our personal favourites is the Joiners Arms at Newton by the Sea and this can be reached by a lovely 4 mile walk along the beach and golf course or by bus.

Further afield you have Seahouses with The Bamburgh Castle hotel and the Victoria Hotel in Bamburgh both offering a great selection of food for all tastes

There is also a great selection of Fish and Chip shops in Seahouses for you to choose from if you are out and about during the day

Beer

Rigg and Furrow is a Northumberland Brewery hosting different events throughout the year

The Ship Inn  brews its own beer on site and is a stones throw away from the beach at Newton by the sea

Cheese

Doddingtons Dairy is definitely a place to visit if you love cheese or ice cream – situated in the town of Wooler, it’s a family run business and you are guaranteed some yummy ice cream

Northumberland Cheese Farm has a cafe and run tours to see the cheese being made.  One of my favourite cheeses is the Nettle Cheese
